1. Why Supplier Carbon Passports Are Critical
For manufacturers of complex CBAM-covered goods (e.g. wire rod, seamless pipes, steel forgings, aluminium profiles), over 60% of total embedded emissions originate from upstream precursor materials (crude steel billets, ferrochrome, sintered ore).
If primary vendor data is missing, EU customs authorities apply prohibitive default penalty values, increasing CBAM certificate liabilities significantly.
2. Step-by-Step Supplier Onboarding & Intake
Step 2.1: Open Supplier Portal Administration
Navigate to Supply ChainSupplier Carbon Passports.
Click + Onboard Supplier.
Enter the vendor's Legal Entity Name, Country of Origin, and primary technical contact email.
Step 2.2: Send Secure Carbon Intake Request
Select the specific precursor material supplied (e.g., Direct Reduced Iron - Sponge Iron).
Click Send Carbon Passport Request.
The supplier receives a zero-installation, authenticated web intake form to submit:
Specific direct embedded emissions (tCO_2e/t).
Specific indirect electricity consumption (MWh/t) and grid emission factor.
Production route details and laboratory test sheets.
Step 2.3: Verification & Reconciliation
When the vendor submits their passport, the status changes to
submitted_pending_review.Inspect the attached verification statement and production route parameters.
Click Accept & Link to Facility Inventory.
The precursor specific intensity is automatically integrated into the quarterly CBAM declaration allocation engine.
